Về Carel Roux
I'm a foreign English teacher based in Vietnam with over seven years of experience helping learners at every level. I came to Vietnam with a passion for teaching and have stayed because I genuinely love working with Vietnamese students. They are motivated, hardworking, and incredibly rewarding to teach.
I hold a personal IELTS score of Band 8.5 and currently work at both an IELTS Authorised Testing Centre and a Cambridge English accredited institution. These aren't just credentials on paper. They reflect a real commitment to understanding the exam at the highest level and staying current with what students need to succeed.
Outside the classroom I'm curious, approachable, and patient. I believe that language learning works best when students feel comfortable making mistakes, asking questions, and taking risks. My job is to create that environment and give you the tools to grow with confidence.

Teaching techniques and methods
My approach combines targeted exam strategy with genuine language development. I don't just teach students what to say. I teach them how to think like an IELTS candidate. This means breaking down each task type systematically, analysing real examiner feedback criteria, and practising under timed, exam-realistic conditions. I use a mix of modelled examples, guided practice, and independent tasks so students build both confidence and accuracy.
Progression of a lesson
A typical lesson begins with a short review of the previous session and any homework. We then move into the main focus, whether that's a Speaking Part 2 response, a Writing Task 1 or 2, a Reading strategy, or a Listening exercise. I give live feedback during practice, then we close with a summary of key takeaways and a clear task to work on before the next lesson. Every lesson ends with the student knowing exactly what to improve and how.
Unique qualities
I scored Band 8.5 on my own IELTS exam, so I understand the test from a candidate's perspective as well as a teacher's. I work at an IELTS Authorised Testing Centre and a Cambridge English accredited institution, which keeps me closely connected to current assessment standards. With over seven years of classroom experience across public schools and private language centres, I know how to adapt my delivery to suit different learning styles, paces, and goals.
Target audience
My lessons are best suited to intermediate and upper-intermediate learners targeting Band 6.0 to 7.5, though I regularly work with students aiming higher. My students are typically university applicants, professionals seeking migration or career opportunities, and motivated self-studiers who want structured guidance rather than generic advice. No specific qualifications are needed, just a clear goal and a willingness to practise.
